Okay, this is a bit outside of my normal preference, but I must admit that I *love* this! Plus, it makes my kids dance in hilarious funky ways. :)

Ten Commandments Song for Kids from One to Ninety-two

Several months ago in our Sabbath School class, the teacher gave us a 'pop-quiz'. He asked us to all see how many of the Ten Commandments we could name, and if we could name them in order.
Embarrassing.
So, thanks to my friend Kim, here's a catchy little song that I'm teaching my kids. It's helping me remember the Ten Commandments, in order, even!
To the tune of 'Ten Little Indians'
I'm your only God, it's true
Never worship idols, ewww
Respect my name and don't be rude
Keep the Sabbath holy
Please obey your mom and dad
Don't kill people, oh how bad!
Stay true in marriage, you'll be glad
Don't steal things from others.
Never ever tell a lie
Don't wish for things your neighbors buy
When you follow God's rules
I'm your only God, it's true
Never worship idols, ewww
Respect my name and don't be rude
Keep the Sabbath holy
Please obey your mom and dad
Don't kill people, oh how bad!
Stay true in marriage, you'll be glad
Don't steal things from others.
Never ever tell a lie
Don't wish for things your neighbors buy
When you follow God's rules
You'll be safe and happy!

A Little Culture :)
Keely's piano teacher alerted us to some very discounted tickets for an Emanuel Ax concert. We invited our friends Wade and Barb and their young pianist Myra to go with us. The music was amazing. I kept thinking of how good God is to give us the beauty of music and the capacity to enjoy it. What a fun evening with friends, and what a treat to go do something 'different'!

All Things Working Together

Tonight we were on our way to have dinner with friends, and the drive over was really lovely. It's been really rainy here lately, but this afternoon was bright and blue. You know how the afternoon sunlight just looks prettier after a rain?
We were enjoying a new CD I picked up yesterday (from the Seeds worship collection, that we love and highly recommend for kids. I don't have much stomach for most kids' music that's out there, but this is something the kids and parents can really enjoy and benefit from...I digress...) One of the songs that's on this album is Romans 8:28 , one of my very favorite verses. I was moved listening to the familiar words. God is working in all things...to do me good. I think this is one of those verses that is easy to become too familiar with; it's easy to gloss over and not really appreciate the magnitude and power it speaks of. I can really barely grasp it:
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
Isn't that just mind-blowing? The loss of a job, the difficult marriage, the financial struggles, the broken relationships...God is working among and through them all to do us good, if we are His children. To conform us to the image of Christ. What a beautiful, wondrous promise to cling to when life is hard! What a precious reminder to submit to whatever is hard in my life, in your life, and turn our faces to Christ, asking Him to have His way.
Lord, help me to trust you more.
Lord, help me to trust you more.

Music

Kevin and I typically are not music-buyers; most of the cd's we own were gifts from my Mom! I have actually purchased two in the past year that I really enjoy. The first is Valley of Vision, from Sovereign Grace Ministries. The instrumentation and vocals are beautiful, and the lyrics are based on prayers of the Puritans. It was only $7, I think on the SG website. The second cd (that I am actually listening to right now) I bought at the True Woman Conference, and it's Keith and Kristyn Getty's In Christ Alone. They led worship during the conference. Their music is less 'worship'-genre, and more like modern hymns. The kids and I have been singing the first stanza to Speak, O Lord together before our Bible time together in the mornings.
Speak, O Lord as we come to You
To receive the food of Your holy Word
Take Your truth, plant it deep in us
Shape and fashion us in Your likeness
That the light of Christ might be seen in us
In our acts of love and our deeds of faith
Speak, O Lord and fulfil in us
All Your purposes for Your glory

Listen to this....
I saw this little girl on Oprah months ago (Kevin will not like for me to admit publicly that I occasionally watch her show; He can't stand her...) and literally had tears in my eyes as I listened to her sing. Opera isn't really my thing, but you can't help but appreciate this little girl's gift.
