I have been working my way through a really good book by
Stephen R. Lawhead, and just finished it this afternoon. I can heartily recommend it; lots of adventure, some humor, very clean. It's the story of an Irish Monk's journey to Constantinople to present the emperor with a gift. I know that description doesn't do the book justice, but I don't want to give too much away. I will say that there is an amazing part where the monk clearly presents the gospel to his captors. It was an exciting surprise to find in a novel that I didn't expect to have any favorable thoughts toward Christianity. There is some disappointing ecumenism painted between Muslims and Christians ("we all pray to the same God" business), but overall it is an entertaining and redeeming read. Oh- and don't be put off by the cheesy drugstore novel cover. :)
