About three years ago Kevin and I decided that we wanted less of Halloween for our family, so, even though we never 'celebrated' it, as in draping faux-spider-webs across our front door, we thought we'd replace the whole scary scenario with something else. We didn't want our kids to feel like they were missing out on candy and fun, though, so we determined to make the 31st of October a day that they would look forward to and have fond memories of. (Last year, actually, we went to a Reformation Day party that was a blast, but this year we're going back to our family night at home.)
Keely and I are going to make lots of party/snack foods that the kids requested. We'll have a scavenger hunt with candy at the end, and Kevin will read a little to the kids about Martin Luther. We don't often buy new DVDs, but we make this night an occasion when we do. (With all the costume money we're saving, this is still a bargain!) Tomorrow night we'll be enjoying this one.
What about your family? Do you celebrate Halloween or Reformation Day or neither?

We don't celebrate either, and often I feel like we are the only ones. We often stay home and watch a movie and I make candy and snacks. If the budget and time allow we also have rented a cabin in the woods to celebrate the fall colors. That is the way I would like to celebrate every year, but this year time does not allow it. Have a great family weekend!

We haven't quite decided what we will do about October 31st. Tyler & Bria are still a bit young and I know that Tyler absolutely does NOT like the masks that he sees around (not that I blame him on that, some of them are downright creepy!). My family never celebrated Halloween either, which is something I'm more inclined to follow. But Matt's family did, so again, when 2 families are joined a decision has to be made between the parents. :) Sounds like you are going to have a FUN night!!!
We don't celebrate most holidays in the same way that most of the world does. So yeah, no blood & gore & yucky, scary stuff for our house either. We tend to go to church carnivals where they play beanbag toss types of games for a handful of candy. Thankfully, that's all my kids have ever known, so they're totally fine with it.
Tonight, our small group from church is getting together @ one of their homes. We're having hot dogs & chips in their yard and then the men will walk with the kids around the neighborhood to trick or treat. The wives will stay at the house where we're having the party to hand out candy to the kids.
Our kids' costumes have never been the yucky sort either. Lots of cartoon characters or policemen/firemen, etc.
PS I should add-- my kids have NEVER trick or treated, so they're really excited about doing something completely different tonight.
We are going to celebrate tonight with a Reformation themed scavenger hunt (ending with candy), and some Reformation foods (Papal Bull-roast, and Diet of Worms cake-cake with gummy worms on the top). The older kids will watch the Luther movie. It's a great night to remember Christians that God has used in a special way, since the word Halloween comes from All Hallow's Eve, (day before All Saints Day).
I have a friend who has done a neat outreach that we might try in the future: visit nursing homes and sing hymns from the Reformation.
